A Material World
2026 - Ongoing
A Material World began as an experiment in letting the body respond before the image was decided. Performing beneath a large piece of fabric, the body moves away from maintaining a recognisable form and begins responding instead to weight, drag, resistance, movement and place. Concealment makes the body less identifiable, but more physically present.
The work marks a shift away from constructing the body primarily for an image and towards allowing movement itself to generate meaning. Body, material and environment act on one another: the place alters the fabric, the fabric alters the body and the body answers through movement.
